Christmas Present
This is Keith:
You have to love Christmas. Last Saturday (January the 5th) I finally got the last present in place. I have been working on this since before Christmas. It seems simple enough. We wanted a CD player for the van. I have been looking for quite some time and I knew that both Circuit City and Best Buy have been selling players for a total of about $160 (including installation). I typically buy electronics from Best Buy. The Sunday before Christmas when the sales paper came out I read through the Best Buy ad and hmmm.... no free installation. That costs about $35. Well, we could afford to wait for a week. We wanted to have it in place before we left Florida on the first of January.
Well, the next Sunday still no free install from Best Buy. I seriously started considering Best Buy. On New Year's Eve I visited Circuit City. Yes, they the unit wanted. Yes, they had all the parts to install it. No, they couldn't install it that day (this was before 11:00 AM). Hmmmmmm.
I went downtown to Ross's office and spent most of the day there. After discussing the situation some we decided right before dinner to just buy the equipment and do the install ourself. Into the car we go and off to Circuit City. We arrived about 5:50 pm. I didn't consider New Year's Eve. They closed at 6:00 pm. Fine, we had 10 minutes. Remember I had been there earlier that day. The same guy was still there in car electronics. I explained that we wanted to buy the player and install it ourself. He didn't even check the computer system. "Those are all gone". I don't want to be negative, but I suspect he really didn't want to take the time to find the stuff and ring it up. It was probably for the best. I could just see being there at 2:00 in the morning trying to install that silly cd player. Then having to get up the next morning and drive to Atlanta. Even so, most annoying.
We drove home on the second. That is a story unto itself. Turns out that little Hudson doesn't like riding in the van at night. He doesn't like it so much that he screams bloody murder. Anyways, this Saturday I went to the Circuit City in Durham. I had gone in to the same store the night before intending to buy the stuff and then bring it back Saturday to have it installed. As I was pulling into the parking light of the Circuit City I realized I didn't have my wallet. I went back the next morning arriving about 9:45 am. They open at 10:00 am. I pulled into the back where the doors are for the car electronics install area is. They have three bays. One car was parked out there. We waited until a few minutes after 10:00 with no apparent activity. A third car pulled up and two ladies get out. They walked up to the door tried to open it (it was locked). Then they knocked on it and after a few seconds it opens.
By the time the other gentlemen from the first car and I got to the door the ladies were inside and getting their stuff looked at. And there was another gentlemen who had walked in through the front door. So I went from second to fourth in the space of about two minutes. Plus, by the time they went and pulled my player and the various pieces they needed for the install someone else ended up in front of me. I left Circuit City at 3:00 pm. But, we now have a nice cd player in the van. Was it worth it? Probably not, but sometimes you just have to grin and bear it.
